Description
For household members who slept under a bed net the previous night, MLNETOBS (HML3) indicates whether the interviewer observed the net the person slept under.
For household members who slept under more than one bed net the previous night, MLNETOBS refers to the net numbered in MLNETINDX (HMLIDX).
Comparability
MLNETOBS (HML3) differs across samples in the number of response categories. Some samples include only two categories: "Not seen" and "Yes, seen." Other samples include three responses, distinguishing between "Yes, seen with holes" and "Yes, seen without holes."
To maximize comparability, IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding with "Yes, seen" having a first digit of "1." The second digit distinguishes between "Yes, seen with holes" (code "11") and "Yes, seen without holes" (code "12"), when this additional information is available.
