Description

MLTRELGH2 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the female respondent reported receiving treatment from a private pharmacy the last time she had malaria. This response category is country-specific to Ghana.

Some samples in the "MLTREL" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these response in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

MLTRELGH2 is combined with MLTRELGH1 (private chemist/drug store) in MLTRELPRIVDRUG (all private, formal drug sources) for the 2016 Ghana sample. IPUMS DHS users interested in using MLTRELGH2 are encouraged to review MLTRELPRIVDRUG for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

MLTRELGH2 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

MLTRELGH2 is a country-specific variable, and it is not included in any phase of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Although MLTRELGH2 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS questionnaires, it is combined with other responses in MLTRELPRIVDRUG, a variable that encompasses all private, formal drug sources for malaria treatment. IPUMS DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of MLTRELGH2 or the Comparability tab of MLTRELPRIVDRUG for more information on the specific categories combined for the 2016 Ghana sample.
