Codes and Frequencies
Description
For women who gave birth in the 5 years before the survey, delivered their last child at a health facility, and received a health check before being discharged from the facility, PPCHECKWHO_01 (M64_1) reports who conducted their postpartum health check. Response categories vary across samples. See Comparability.
Comparability
Along with universe differences, the response categories for PPCHECKWHO_01 vary across samples.
The harmonized coding categories in the IPUMS-DHS variable PPCHECKWHO_01 were constructed to reflect the major and minor categories in the original DHS variable (M64_1). The major categories are:
- 1000: Health professionals
- 2000: Other person
The second, third, and fourth digits of PPCHECKWHO_01's codes distinguish between specific locations and provide detail present in only some samples.
When response categories include non-standard groupings, IPUMS-DHS codes those groupings as a sub-category under the most qualified of the group (e.g., "Doctor/clinical officer" (code "1110") is a sub-category of "Doctor" (code "1100")).
Comparability - Standard DHS
PPCHECKWHO_01 (M64_1) is included in Phase V and VII of the standard DHS questionnaire.
