Codes and Frequencies
Description
SAMEH2OSRC (V142) indicates whether the household used the same source of water for drinking and for other uses (such as laundry and dishwashing). For samples without this variable, the information could be calculated by comparing the household's reported sources of drinking water and water for other uses.
Comparability
Apart from universe differences, SAMEH2OSRC (V142) is largely comparable across samples. Usually the question was phrased in terms of whether drinking water was procured from the same source as was water for washing and other household uses. Occasionally (e.g., for Egypt 1992), information was first collected about the source of drinking water, and SAMEH2OSRC referred to whether water for washing came from the same source as potable water.
Comparability - Standard DHS
While the question for SAMEH2OSRC is included in only the Phase 2 standard DHS questionnaire, the V142 variable is included in both the Phase 2 and Phase 3 standard recodes.
