Description
STIADCF1 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the female respondent reported seeking advice or treatment from a government health center the last time she experienced symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection in the past year. This response category is country-specific to Central African Republic.
Some samples in the "STIAD" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
STIADCF1 (government health center) is combined with STIADCF2 (health sub-center) in STIADPUBHC (all public health centers) for the 1995 Central African Republic sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using STIADCF1 are encouraged to review STIADPUBHC for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
STIADCF1 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where the woman received advice/treatment for an STI is included in Phases III, V and VI forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Although STIADCF1 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in STIADPUBHC, a standard variable that encompasses all public health centers as sources for STI advice/treatment. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of STIADCF1 or the Comparability tab of STIADPUBHC for more information on the specific categories combined for the Central African Republic samples.
