Description
STIADCG5 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the female respondent reported seeking advice or treatment from a shop or market the last time she experienced symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection in the past year. This response category is country-specific to Republic of the Congo - Brazzaville.
Some samples in the "STIAD" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
STIADCG5 (shop/market) is combined with STIADCG6 (other shop) in STIADSHOP (all shops and retailers) for the 2005 Republic of the Congo - Brazzaville samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using STIADCG5 are encouraged to review STIADSHOP for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
STIADCG5 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where the woman received advice/treatment for an STI is included in Phases III, V, and VI forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Although STIADCG5 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in STIADSHOP, a standard variable that encompasses all shops and retailers as sources for STI advice/treatment. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of STIADCG5 or the Comparability tab of STIADSHOP for more information on the specific categories combined for the Republic of the Congo - Brazzaville samples.
