Description
For women who had symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection in the past 12 months, STIADCM5 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported seeking advice or treatment from a clinic, hospital, or private doctor for this problem. This response is country-specific to Cameroon.
IPUMS-DHS users should be careful to distinguish this variable from STIADCLINYN, which indicates whether the woman reported treatment from a clinic, hospital or private doctor in response to a closed-ended question.
Comparability
STIADCM5 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where the woman sought advice/treatment for an STI in the last 12 months is first included in Phase III, V, and VI of the standard DHS questionnaire. STIADCM5 is a country-specific variable and is not included in any of the standard DHS questionnaires.
