Description
For women who had symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection in the past 12 months, STIADEG18 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported seeking advice or treatment from a public "health insurance/curative care organization" for this problem. This response category is country-specific to Egypt.
Comparability
STIADEG18 has no comparability problems.
In the 2005 and 2014 Egypt surveys, "health insurance organization" and "curative care organization" are listed as two separate responses. These responses are preserved in IPUMS-DHS in STIADEG16 and STIADEG17, respectively.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where the woman received advice/treatment for an STI is included in Phases III, V and VI forward of the standard DHS questionnaire. STIADEG18 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS module.
