Description
For women who had symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection in the past 12 months, STIADGN1 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported seeking advice or treatment from a private hospital/clinic for this problem. This response category is country-specific to Guinea.
Some samples in the "STIAD" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
STIADGN1 is combined with STIADGN2 (private doctor) in STIADPRIVHOS (private hospital, clinic, or doctor) for the 1999 Guinea sample.
STIADGN1 is combined with STIADGN2 (private doctor), and STIADGN6 (private health clinic) in STIADPRIVHOS (private hospital, clinic, or doctor) for the 2018 Guinea sample.
IPUMS-DHS users interested in using STIADGN1 are encouraged to review STIADPRIVHOS for a more comprehensive response category.
