Description

For women who had symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection in the past 12 months, STIADKM1 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported seeking advice or treatment from a public health center for this problem. This response category is country-specific to Comoros.

Some samples in the "STIAD" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

STIADKM1 is combined with STIADKM2 (medical-surgical center), STIADKM3 (urban medical center), and STIADKM4 (community health center) in STIADPUBHC (all public health centers) for the 2012 Comoros sample. IPUMS DHS users interested in using STIADKM1 are encouraged to review STIADPUBHC for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

STIADKM1 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where the woman received advice/treatment for an STI is included in Phases III, V and VI forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Although STIADKM1 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in STIADPUBHC, a standard variable that encompasses all public health centers as sources for STI advice/treatment. IPUMS DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of STIADKM1 or the Comparability tab of STIADPUBHC for more information on the specific categories combined for the 2012 Comoros sample.
