Description
For women who had symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection in the past 12 months, STIADNP6 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported seeking advice or treatment from a private clinic for this problem. This response category is country-specific to Nepal.
Some samples in the "STIAD" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
STIADNP6 is combined with STIADNP5 (private hospital/nursing home) in STIADPRIVHOS (private hospital, clinic, or doctor) for the 2016 Nepal sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using STIADNP6 are encouraged to review STIADPRIVHOS for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
STIADNP6 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where the woman received advice/treatment for an STI is included in Phases III, V and VI forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Although STIADNP6 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in STIADPRIVHOS, a standard variable that encompasses private hospitals, clinics, and doctors as sources for STI advice/treatment. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of STIADNP6 or the Comparability tab of STIADPRIVHOS for more information on the specific categories combined for the 2016 Nepal sample.
