Description
For women who had symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection in the past 12 months, STIADNP9 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported seeking advice or treatment from the International Nepal Fellowship (INF), a non-governmental organization (NGO). This response category is country-specific to Nepal.
Some samples in the "STIAD" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
STIADNP9 is combined with other NGOs in the 2006 and 2011 Nepal surveys.
- In the 2006 Nepal survey, STIADNP9 is combined with STIADNP7 (FPAN), STIADNP8 (ADMA), STIADNP10 (Nepal Red Cross), STIADNP11 (UMN), and STIADNP14 (other NGOs) in STIADNGO (all NGOs).
- In the 2011 Nepal survey, STIADNP9 is combined with STIADNP7 (FPAN), STIADNP8 (ADMA), STIADNP10 (Nepal Red Cross), STIADNP11 (UMN), STIADNP12 (ADRA), and STIADNP14 (other NGOs) in STIADNGO (all NGOs).
IPUMS-DHS users interested in using STIADNP9 are encouraged to review STIADNGO for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
STIADNP9 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where the woman received advice/treatment for an STI is included in Phases III, V and VI forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Although STIADNP9 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in STIADNGO, a standard variable that encompasses all NGOs as potential sources for STI advice or treatment. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of STIADNP9 or the Comparability tab of STIADNGO for more information on the specific categories combined for the 2006 and 2011 Nepal samples.
