Description
For women who had symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection in the past 12 months, STIADPUBHP indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported seeking advice or treatment from a public health post for this problem.
IPUMS-DHS users should be careful to distinguish this variable from STIADHPDISP, a standard variable indicating whether the woman sought advice from a health post or a dispensary.

Comparability
Along with universe differences, STIADPUBHP varies in wording across samples. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Survey Text tab for samples of interest.
Additionally, samples varied in how they collected information about sexually transmitted infections. For example, samples in Phase V forward surveys generally asked whether the woman had any STI, a genital sore/ulcer, and a genital discharge. In Phase III, the surveys mentioned additional infections. Due to this variation, researchers are encouraged to the Survey Text tab for samples of interest.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where the woman sought advice/treatment for an STI is included in Phases III, V, and VI in the standard DHS questionnaire.
Although response in this variable are country-specific and not included in the standard DHS modules, they are integrated in STIADPUBHP to increase comparability across samples.
Comparability — Nepal [top]
In the 2006 and 2011 Nepal surveys, under the "Public Sector" header, there are separate categories for "health post" and "sub-health post." Because STIADPUBHP focuses on all public health posts, these two responses are consolidated in STIADPUBHP to create a more comprehensive response category. For researchers interested in preserving these country-specific categories:
