Description
For women who had symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection in the past 12 months, STIADSN4 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported seeking advice or treatment from a public community health center ("case de sante") for this problem. This response category is country-specific to Senegal.
Some samples in the "STIAD" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
STIADSN4 is combined with STIADSN3 (public government health center) in STIADPUBHC (all public health centers) for the 2017 Senegal sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using STIADSN4 are encouraged to review STIADPUBHC for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
STIADSN4 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where the woman received advice/treatment for an STI is included in Phases III, V and VI forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Although STIADSN4 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in STIADPUBHC, a standard variable that encompasses all public health centers as sources for STI advice/treatment. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of STIADSN4 or the Comparability tab of STIADPUBHC for more information on the specific categories combined for the Senegal samples.
