Description
STIADSZ5 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the female respondent reported seeking advice or treatment at some other mission health facility the last time she experienced symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection in the past year. The meaning of "other" must be interpreted relative to the specific categories included in a particular sample. This response category is country-specific to Eswatini/Swaziland.
Some samples in the "STIAD" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
STIADSZ5 (other mission) is combined with STIADSZ3 (mission hospital), and STIADSZ4 (mission clinic) in STIADPRIVMIS (all private religious/mission health facilities) for the 2006 Eswatini/Swaziland samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using STIADSZ5 are encouraged to review STIADPRIVMIS for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
STIADSZ5 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where the woman received advice/treatment for an STI is included in Phases III, V and VI forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Although STIADSZ5 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in STIADPRIVMIS, a standard variable that encompasses all private religious/mission health facilities as sources for STI advice/treatment. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of STIADSZ5 or the Comparability tab of STIADPRIVMIS for more information on the specific categories combined for the Eswatini/Swaziland samples.
