Description
STIANYR (V763A) indicates whether the woman had any sexually transmitted infection in the last 12 months. How this information was collected changed over time. See Comparability.
Comparability
Along with universe differences, the question wording for STIANYR (V763A) changed over time.
For earlier surveys (typically before 2000), women were asked to report if they have had specific sexually transmitted infections (STIs), either from a list or by respondent recall, and only women who had heard about STIs were included in the universes. For later surveys, women were asked if they had contracted any infections through sexual contact, but they were not asked to name specific diseases.
Users of STIANYYR should be attentive to survey text for this variable, especially those using earlier phases of the DHS. See "Survey Text" tab above.
Comparability - Standard DHS
