Comparability — Senegal [top]
The 1986 Senegal survey included the question, "Have you ever had a stillborn baby?" as the start of a series of questions designed to identify potentially missed live births not captured by earlier questions. Follow-up questions asked whether the supposedly stillborn child showed any signs of life (such as breathing)--and thus should have been considered a live birth instead. In the case of Senegal 1986, only 5 out of 386 supposedly stillborn children should have been reported as live births (and those cases were added to the total number of male and female births for the respondent).
