Description
SXTIMETOEXMAR (V851) reports how many days, weeks, months, or years have passed since the married woman last had sexual intercourse with someone other than her husband/partner.
IPUMS-DHS users may also be interested in the related variable TIMESINCESEX (V527), which reports the last time the woman had intercourse with any partner.
Comparability
Apart from universe differences, SXTIMETOEXMAR (V851) is largely comparable across samples. Most commonly, the survey asked a dichotomous question probing whether the woman had sexual intercourse with someone other than her husband/partner in the last 12 months. If the woman responded "No," she was coded as "995" (No sex with others). If she responded "Yes," she was asked when this intercourse last occurred.
