Description
TBCARESL3 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the female respondent reported preferring to seek care at a private hospital or nursing home if she had tuberculosis. This response category is country-specific to Sierra Leone.
Some samples in the "TBCARE" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
TBCARESL3 is combined with TBCARESL4 (private clinic) in TBCAREPRIVHOS (all private hospitals and clinics) for the 2019 Sierra Leone sample. IPUMS DHS users interested in using TBCARESL3 are encouraged to review TBCAREPRIVHOS for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
TBCARESL3 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
TBCARESL3 is a country-specific variable, and it is not included in any phase of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Although TBCARESL3 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in TBCAREPRIVHOS, a variable that encompasses all private hospitals and clinics as potential sources of tuberculosis treatment. IPUMS DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of TBCARESL3 or the Comparability tab of TBCAREPRIVHOS for more information on the specific categories combined for Sierra Leone 2019.
