The possible response categories for TVFQMN (MV159) change across phases. See the Survey Text tab for exact question wording.
To maximize comparability across samples, IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding for this variable. The answer "Not at all" is coded 0. The second digit indicates whether the male respondent watches television less than once a week (coded 110) or more than once a week (120). The third digit displays additional information available for some samples, with code 121 indicating "At least once a week" and 122 indicating "At least once a day."
Comparability - Standard DHS
TVFQMN (MV159) is a standard recode variable for men for DHS Phase 4 forward.
While the question wording for TVFQMN (MV159) remains the same across phases, the response categories differ. Initially, the standard DHS questionnaire for men includes the response categories: Almost every day, At least once a week, Less than once a week, and Not at all.
