Comparability — Bangladesh [top]
The 1994 Bangladesh sample asks, "Were any of those pregnancies ended by menstrual regulation or induced abortion?"
Menstrual regulation refers to a method of inducing a menstrual period by a health care worker inserting a tube in the cervix and clearing the uterus through manual vacuum aspiration (or drugs). While menstrual regulation can be considered a form of abortion early in a pregnancy, the procedure is treated as a method of birth control or regulation of menses in some countries, such as Bangladesh.
