Codes and Frequencies
Description
WKHUSECON reports the main (economic) activity of the respondent's husband/partner, differentiating between those who were working (and the sector in which they worked) and those who did not work (and what they did instead).
Comparability
WKHUSECON has no comparability problems. IPUMS DHS uses composite coding with this variable. All those who were currently working share a common first digit of "1," with the second digit indicating the industry (e.e., code "11" for "agriculture"). All those who were not working share a common first digit of "2," with the second digit indicating their specific status (e.g., code "21" for "student").
Comparability - Standard DHS
WKHUSECON is a country-specific variable, and it is not included in any phase of the standard DHS questionnaire.
