WKWORKLASTYR (V731) indicates whether the respondent worked recently (i.e., was currently working, was on leave from a job in the past 7 days, or worked in the past year).

Comparability

Along with universe differences, WKWORKLASTYR (V731) differs across samples in the degree of detail. To maximize comparability, IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding. Women who did not work are coded 0. Women who worked recently share a common first digit of 1, with the second digit distinguishing between those who "worked in the past year" (code 11), who were "currently working" (code 12), and those who "have a job but were on leave in the past 7 days" (code 13).

WKWORKLASTYR (V731), with information on "whether the respondent worked in the last 12 months," is included in the standard DHS questionnaire from Phase III forward.

Comparability — Angola [top]

The 2015 Angola survey asks about employment in the household questionnaire rather than in the women's questionnaire. It does not ask about employment in the past 12 months.

Comparability — Jordan [top]

The 2017 Jordan survey does not ask whether the woman has worked in the last 12 months. It only asks whether the woman worked in the last 7 days, or whether she has a job from which she was absent for the last 7 days.
