Comparability
In addition to and slight differences in question wording, YRSCHLTZ differs across samples in the available education level categories (found in EDUCLVLTZ. These differences are largely due to changes in the Tanzanian educational system.
Because YRSCHLTZ reports the number of years of schooling at the level achieved, "4 years" does not mean 4 years total, but 4 years at whichever level of education the respondent achieved. Thus, a code of 4 could indicate 4 years of primary school, post-primary training, secondary school, or post-secondary "O" level training, for example. Users should consult the Survey Text tab for exact question wording and surrounding questions.
Comparability - Standard DHS
A question about the highest year of education the respondent has completed is included in every phase of the standard DHS questionnaire. YRSCHLTZ is a country-specific variable.
