Codes and Frequencies
Description
YRSCHLYE reports the number of years of education the respondent completed at the highest level of schooling achieved, as reported in EDUCLVLYE. This variable is country-specific to Yemen.
Comparability
In addition to universe differences and slight differences in question wording, YRSCHLYE differs across samples in the available education level categories. These differences are largely due to changes in the Yemen educational system.
Because YRSCHLYE reports the number of years of schooling at the level achieved, "4 years" does not mean 4 years total, but 4 years at whichever level of education the respondent achieved. Thus, a code of 4 could indicate 4 years of primary school, a high school degree, or a bachelor's degree, for example. Users should consult the Survey Text tab for exact question wording and surrounding questions.
Comparability - Standard DHS
A question about the highest year of education the respondent has completed is included in every phase of the standard DHS questionnaire. YRSCHLYE is a country-specific variable.
