Description

GEO_MG2008 (V101_MG2008) indicates the region of Madagascar where the respondent was interviewed. DHS units in the 2008 Madagascar survey are equivalent to regions.

Other sample years have their own sample-specific geography variables. There is also an integrated variable, GEO_MG1992_2008, that provides spatially consistent units over time, and a second variable GEO_MG2008_2021 that corresponds to the greater detail found in the later Madagascar samples.

GEO_MG2008 (V101_MG2008) is a country- and sample-specific variable and has no comparability issues.

GEO_MG2008, like other V101 variables, is a geographic variable added during processing of the DHS data. V101 is included in all Phases of the DHS.
