Description
GEO_PK2012 (V101_PK2012) indicates the region of Pakistan where the respondent was interviewed. DHS regions in the 2012 Pakistan survey are equivalent to provinces.
Other sample years have their own sample-specific geography variables. There is also an integrated variable, GEO_PK1991_2017, that provides spatially consistent units over time.
A GIS map for GEO_ PK2012 (in shapefile format) can be downloaded from the DHS Program Spatial Data Repository Boundaries page.
Comparability
The 2012 survey contains data from Gilgit Baltistan only; the other part of FANA (Federally Administered Northern Areas), Azad Jammu and Kashmir is excluded from the 2012 survey. FATA (Federally Administered Tribal Areas) is also excluded from the 2012 survey.
GEO_PK2012 (V101_PK2012) is a country- and sample-specific variable and has no comparability issues.
Comparability - Standard DHS
GEO_PK2012, like other V101 variables, is a geographic variable added during processing of the DHS data. V101 is included in all Phases of the DHS.
