Description
GEO_ RW2005_2019 reports the region of Rwanda where the respondent was interviewed. The variable is integrated to yield units with consistent boundaries across Rwandan samples.
Labels identify the modern geographic units (provinces) contained in each integrated region. Each Rwandan sample also has its own non-integrated geography variable. All Rwanda samples have greater geographic detail available in their sample-specific variables. An additional geographic variable, GEO_RW1992_2005, includes the 1992, 2000, and 2005 Rwanda samples and contains different geographic units (groups of prefectures).
An integrated GIS map (in shapefile format) for Rwanda can be downloaded here.
Comparability
In 2002, geographic units of prefectures changed to provinces. In 2006, the twelve provinces were abolished and replaced with the five provinces available in GEO_RW2005_2019.
The 2005 sample includes both provinces and prefectures as geographic units (see GEO_RW2005).
The Rwanda 1992 and 2000 samples are excluded from GEO_RW2005_2019 due to inconsistent boundaries.
The 2013 and 2017 surveys correspond to Malaria Indicators Surveys (MIS).
