Description
GEO_ZM1992_2018 reports the region of Zambia where the respondent was interviewed. The variable is integrated to yield units with consistent boundaries across samples.
Labels identify the modern geographic units (provinces) contained in each integrated region. Each sample also has its own non-integrated geography variable. All Zambia samples have greater geographic detail available in their sample-specific variables.
An integrated GIS map (in shapefile format) for Zambia can be downloaded here.
Comparability
In the 1992 sample, certain provinces were combined for fertility and infant mortality indicators, namely:
- Central with Eastern
- Northern with Luapula
- Northwestern with Western
The combined regions are provided as separate provinces in the geography variables for the individual Zambian samples. However, the Eastern, Northern, and Muchinga provinces are combined in GEO_ZM1992_2018, because Muchinga was created from Eastern and Northern in 2013.
