Description
For women who gave birth in the last five years and who received antenatal care during their most recent pregnancy, ANCPUBOTH_01 (M57L_1) indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported receiving care at some "other" public medical source. The meaning of "other" depends on the specific response categories included in a given sample.
IPUMS-DHS users should be careful to distinguish ANCPUBOTH_01 from ANCPRIVOTH_01 ("other" under the private medical sector) and ANCOTHER_01 ("other" that is not described as under either the private or the public medical sector).
Comparability
Apart from universe differences and the contextual meaning of "other," ANCPUBOTH_01 (M57L_1) is largely comparable across samples.
Comparability - Standard DHS
ANCPUBOTH_01 (M57L_1) is included in the standard DHS questionnaire for Phase V. Although this response category is removed from the standard DHS questionnaire in Phase VI, it is still included in a number of Phase VI samples.
