Codes and Frequencies
Description
EDUCLVLJO reports the highest level of school, within the educational system of Jordan, that the respondent attended. This variable is country-specific to Jordan.
Comparability
In addition to universe differences and slight differences in question wording, EDUCLVLJO differs across samples in the available response categories. These differences are largely due to changes in the Jordanian educational system.
To maximize comparability across samples, IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding for this variable. For example, all levels of secondary schooling share a common first digit of "2"; the second digit distinguishes between the old and new secondary school systems; and the third digit provides additional detail within these categories.
Comparability - Standard DHS
A question about the highest level of school the respondent has attended is included in every phase of the standard DHS questionnaire. EDUCLVLJO is a country-specific variable.
