Description
GEO_BI2010_2016 indicates the region of Burundi where the respondent was interviewed. The variable is integrated to yield units with consistent boundaries across samples.
Labels identify the modern geographic units (provinces) contained in each integrated region. Each sample also has its own non-integrated geography variable. The 2016 Burundi sample has greater geographic detail available in its sample-specific variable.

Comparability
Burundi had five regions in 2010, with the capital, Bujumbura Mairie, included as a separate region. The 2016 sample has 18 regions that correspond to primary administrative level provinces in Burundi.
The 1987 sample defines ecological regions that do not align with any administrative boundaries; 1987 regions are excluded from GEO_BI2010_2016.
The 2012 sample corresponds to Malaria Indicators Surveys (MIS).
