Description

For women who had symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection in the past 12 months, STIADLR1 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported seeking advice or treatment from a government health center for this problem. This response category is country-specific to Liberia.

Some samples in the "STIAD" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

STIADLR1 (government health center) is combined with STIADLR2 (government health clinic) in STIADPUBHC (all public health centers) for the 2007 and 2013 Liberia samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using STIADLR1 are encouraged to review STIADPUBHC for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

STIADLR1 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where the woman received advice/treatment for an STI is included in Phases III, V and VI forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Although STIADLR1 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in STIADPUBHC, a standard variable that encompasses all public health centers as sources for STI advice/treatment. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of STIADLR1 or the Comparability tab of STIADPUBHC for more information on the specific categories combined for Liberia 2007 and 2013.
