Description

FPNONGM2 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported an NGO family planning clinic source as a source of family planning. This response category is country-specific to Gambia.

Some samples in the "FPNON" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

FPNONGM2 is combined with FPNONGM1 (NGO hospital or clinic), FPNONGM3 (NGO family planning clinic), and FPNONGM4 (Other NGO) in FPNONNGO (all NGO sources), for the 2013 Gambia sample.

IPUMS-DHS users interested in using FPNONGM2 are encouraged to review FPNONNGO for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

FPNONGM2 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where family planning can be obtained for women not currently using a method is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire. FPNONGM2 is a country-specific response.

To increase comparability across samples, IPUMS-DHS created the standard variable FPNONNGO to integrate samples including "NGO" as a source of family planning. FPNONGM2 is combined with other responses in this variable for the 2013 Gambia sample. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of FPNONGM2 or the Comparability Tab of FPNONNGO for more information on the specific categories combined for the Gambian 2013 sample.
