Description
HCFTZ5 indicates whether the woman reported a public referral hospital as a source for female condoms. This response category is country-specific to Tanzania.
Some samples in the "HCF" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
HCFTZ5 is combined with HCFTZ6 (public regional hospital) and HCFTZ7 (public district hospital) in HCFPUBHOS (all public hospitals) for the 2004 and 2010 Tanzania samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCFTZ5 are encouraged to review HCFPUBHOS for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
HCFTZ5 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on known sources for female condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases IV forward.
Though HCFTZ5 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCFPUBHOS, a variable that encompasses all public hospitals as sources of female condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCFTZ5 or the Comparability tab of HCFPUBHOS for more information on the specific categories combined for Tanzania 2004 and 2010.
