Description
HCMCF1 indicates whether the woman reported a government health center as a source for male condoms. This response category is country-specific to Central African Republic.
Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
HCMCF1 (government health center) is combined with HCMCF2 (health clinic) and HCMCF3 (health post) in HCMPUBHC (all public health centers/clinics and health posts) for the 1995 Central African Republic sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMCF1 are encouraged to review HCMPUBHC for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
HCMCF1 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases III forward.
Although HCMCF1 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCMPUBHC, a variable that encompasses all public health centers and health posts as sources of male condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCMCF1 or the Comparability tab of HCMPUBHC for more information on the specific categories combined for Central African Republic 1995.
