Description
HCMCF2 indicates whether the female respondent reported a health clinic as a source for male condoms. This response category is country-specific to Central African Republic.
Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
HCMCF2 (health clinic) is combined with HCMCF1 (government health center) and HCMCF3 (health post) in HCMPUBHC (all public health centers and health posts) for the 1995 Central African Republic sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMCF2 are encouraged to review HCMPUBHC for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
HCMCF2 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases III forward.
Although HCMCF2 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCMPUBHC, a variable that encompasses all public health centers and health posts as sources of male condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCMCF2 or the Comparability tab of HCMPUBHC for more information on the specific categories combined for Central African Republic 1995.
