Description
HCMCM1 indicates whether the woman reported a religious hospital/clinic as a source for male condoms. This response category is country-specific to Cameroon.
Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
HCMCM1 is combined with HCMCM2 (religious health center) in HCMPRIVMIS (all faith-based health facilities) for the 1998, 2004, and 2011 Cameroon samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMCM1 are encouraged to review HCMPRIVMIS for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
Apart from slight universe differences, HCMCM1 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases III forward.
Though HCMCM1 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCMPRIVMIS, a variable that encompasses all faith-based health facilities as sources of male condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCMCM1 or the Comparability tab of HCMPRIVMIS for more information on the specific categories combined for Cameroon 1998, 2004, and 2011.
