Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

HCMET6 is combined with HCMET4 (NGO health facility), HCMET8 (NGO family guidance), and HCMET9 (other NGO) in HCMNGO (all NGOs) for the 2000 Ethiopia sample.

An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases III forward.

Though HCMET6 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCMNGO, a variable that encompasses all non-governmental organizations (NGOs) as sources of male condoms.
