Description
HCMGN2 indicates whether the woman reported a public health center as a source for male condoms. This response category is country-specific to Guinea.
Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
HCMGN2 is combined with HCMGN1 (public health post) in HCMPUBHC (public health centers and health posts) for the 1999 Guinea sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMGN2 are encouraged to review HCMPUBHC for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
HCMGN2 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases III forward.
Though HCMGN2 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCMPUBHC, a variable that encompasses public health centers and health posts as sources of male condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCMGN2 or the Comparability tab of HCMPUBHC for more information on the specific categories combined for Guinea 1999.
