Description
HCMJO7 indicates whether the woman reported a UNHCR (the United Nations Refugee Agency) facility or some other NGO facility as a source for (male) condoms. The meaning of "other" must be interpreted relative to the specific categories included in a particular sample. This response category is country-specific to Jordan.
Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
HCMJO7 is combined with HCMJO6 (UNRWA) in HCMNGO (all NGOs) for the 2017 Jordan sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMJO7 are encouraged to review HCMNGO for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
HCMJO7 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phase III forward.
Although HCMJO7 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCMNGO, a variable that encompasses all NGOs as sources of male condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCMJO7 or the Comparability tab of HCMNGO for more information on the specific categories combined for the Jordan samples.
