Description
HCMMM3 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported a public urban health center/maternal and child health center as a source for male condoms. This response category is country-specific to Myanmar.
Some samples in the "HCM" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
HCMMM3 is combined with HCMMM1 (government health center), and HCMMM2 (public health post) in HCMPUBHC (all public health centers and health posts) for the 2015 Myanmar sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMMM3 are encouraged to review HCMPUBHC for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
HCMMM3 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases III forward.
Although HCMMM3 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in HCMPUBHC, a standard variable that encompasses all public health centers and health posts as potential sources for male condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCMMM3 or the Comparability tab of HCMPUBHC for more information on the specific categories combined for the 2015 Myanmar sample.
