Description
HCMMZ2 indicates whether the woman reported a public provincial hospital as a source for male condoms. This response category is country-specific to Mozambique.
Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
HCMMZ2 is combined with HCMMZ1 (public central hospital) and HCMMZ3 (public rural hospital) in HCMPUBHOS (all public hospitals) for the 1997, 2003, and 2011 Mozambique samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMMZ2 are encouraged to review HCMPUBHOS for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
Apart from slight universe differences, HCMMZ2 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases III forward.
Though HCMMZ2 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCMPUBHOS, a variable that encompasses all public hospitals as sources of male condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCMMZ2 or the Comparability tab of HCMPUBHOS for more information on the specific categories combined for Mozambique 1997, 2003, and 2011.
