HCMMZ3 indicates whether the woman reported a public rural hospital as a source for male condoms. This response category is country-specific to Mozambique.

Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

HCMMZ3 is combined with HCMMZ1 (public central hospital) and HCMMZ2 (public provincial hospital) in HCMPUBHOS (all public hospitals) for the 1997, 2003, and 2011 Mozambique samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMMZ3 are encouraged to review HCMPUBHOS for a more comprehensive response category.

Apart from slight universe differences, HCMMZ3 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases III forward.

Though HCMMZ3 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCMPUBHOS, a variable that encompasses all public hospitals as sources of male condoms.
