Description
HCMNE4 indicates whether the woman reported a public "integrated health center" (translated from the French "Centre de Santé Intégré") as a source for male condoms. This response category is country-specific to Niger.
Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
HCMNE4 is combined with HCMNE5 (public health center) in HCMPUBHC (public health centers and health posts) for the 2012 Niger sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMNE4 are encouraged to review HCMPUBHC for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
HCMNE4 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases III forward.
Though HCMNE4 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCMPUBHC, a variable that encompasses all public health centers and health posts as sources of male condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCMNE4 or the Comparability tab of HCMPUBHC for more information on the specific categories combined for Niger 2012.
