Description
HCMNM5 indicates whether the woman reported a public outreach point as a source for male condoms. This response category is country-specific to Namibia.
Some samples in the "HCM" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
HCMNM5 is combined with HCMNM6 (public mobile clinic) in HCMPUBMOB (all public mobile clinics) for the 2013 Namibia sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMNM5 are encouraged to review HCMPUBMOB for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
HCMNM5 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases III forward.
Although HCMNM5 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in HCMPUBMOB, a standard variable that encompasses all public mobile clinics as potential sources of male condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCMNM5 or the Comparability tab of HCMPUBMOB for more information on the specific categories combined for the 2013 Namibia sample.
