Description
HCMSZ2 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the female respondent reported a religious/mission clinic as a source for male condoms. This response category is country-specific to Eswatini/Swaziland.
Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
HCMSZ2 is combined with HCMSZ1 (religious/mission hospital) and HCMSZ3 (other religious/mission facility) in HCMPRIVMIS (all religious/mission facilities or organizations) for the 2006 Eswatini/Swaziland sample.
IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMSZ2 are encouraged to review HCMPRIVMIS for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
HCMSZ2 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases III forward.
HCMSZ2 and the related variable HCMPRIVMIS, which combines HCMSZ2 with other responses to encompass all religious/mission facilities, are country-specific and not included in the standard DHS questionnaire. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCMSZ2 or the Comparability tab of HCMPRIVMIS for more information on the specific categories combined for the Eswatini/Swaziland 2006 sample.
