HCMSZ4 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the female respondent reported the non-governmental organization (NGO) FLAS (Family Life Association of Swaziland) as a source for male condoms. This response category is country-specific to Eswatini/Swaziland.

Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

HCMSZ4 is combined with HCMSZ5 (Other NGO) in HCMNGO (all NGOs) for the 2006 Eswatini/Swaziland sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMSZ4 are encouraged to review HCMNGO for a more comprehensive response category.

HCMSZ4 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phase III forward.

Although HCMSZ4 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCMNGO, a variable that encompasses all NGOs as sources of male condoms.
