Description
HCMTD2 indicates whether the woman reported a public military or garrison hospital as a source for (male) condoms. This response category is country-specific to Chad.
Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
HCMTD2 (public military/garrison hospital) is combined with HCMTD1 (public hospital/maternity home) in HCMPUBHOS (all public hospitals) for the 1996, 2004, and 2014 Chad samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMTD2 are encouraged to review HCMPUBHOS for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
Apart from universe differences and slight differences in question wording, HCMTD2 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phase III forward. For discussion of differences between phases in this variable series, see the Comparability tab of HCMDK.
Although HCMTD2 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCMPUBHOS, a variable that encompasses all public hospitals as sources of male condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCMTD2 or the Comparability tab of HCMPUBHOS for more information on the specific categories combined for the Chad samples.
