Description
HCMTZ5 indicates whether the woman reported a public referral hospital as a source for male condoms. This response category is country-specific to Tanzania.
Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
HCMTZ5 is combined with HCMTZ6 (public regional hospital) and HCMTZ7 (public district hospital) in HCMPUBHOS (all public hospitals) for the 2004 and 2010 Tanzania samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMTZ5 are encouraged to review HCMPUBHOS for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
HCMTZ5 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases III forward.
Though HCMTZ5 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCMPUBHOS, a variable that encompasses all public hospitals as sources of male condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCMTZ5 or the Comparability tab of HCMPUBHOS for more information on the specific categories combined for Tanzania 2004 and 2010.
